About
The Tenth Street Residential Organization (TSRO) is a community-driven coalition dedicated to preserving, protecting, and advancing the historic Tenth Street neighborhood in Dallas, Texas. Rooted in one of the city’s oldest Freedmen’s Towns, TSRO works at the intersection of historic preservation, community advocacy, and equitable development.
Rooted in one of the city’s oldest Freedmen’s Towns, Tenth Street was established in the late 19th century by formerly enslaved individuals who built a self-sustaining, deeply connected community grounded in resilience, land ownership, and cultural tradition. Generations of Black families have shaped the neighborhood’s identity—through its homes, churches, schools, and shared histories—creating a legacy that continues to define Tenth Street today.
Over time, the neighborhood has faced systemic disinvestment, environmental challenges, and ongoing development pressures that threaten both its physical landscape and cultural fabric. Despite these challenges, Tenth Street remains a powerful example of community endurance and historical significance within the city of Dallas.
TSRO advocates for responsible development, supports residents in navigating city processes, and works to protect the cultural and historical assets of the neighborhood. We center the voices of residents in conversations about change, ensuring that growth reflects the needs and priorities of those who call Tenth Street home.
